So the big news in town is the HTC HD2. Ya I said 2 I remember when the first was announced and released. The phone itself is a big escape from the normal hardware that we see on most windows mobile phones. Ya there are some higher spec'd phone like HTC advantage. (bigger screen)
Lets get the specs out of the way
°4.3 inch capactive screen
°5 MP camera with flash and autofocus
°WVGA (800x400) screen
° 512 mb rom 448 mb ram
° 1230 MaH
° 3.5 mm stereo headset
Among other things.
First lets talk about the big ones;
Capactive screen this will be the first windows mobile phone to have it. But it mostly relys on htc adjusting the target point on the screen and some adjustment on th UI. Some of the windows mobile 6.5.1 menus have been made finger friendly. As you can see in the picture HTC has gone to great lenghts to skin windows mobile. The home screen looks nothing like it did a few years ago.

Well its time I start posting on this blog again. After a 4 month detour, I'm going to be start posting on a regular basis.
There has been alot of new since I last posted. Everything from new hardware to windows 6.5 official release. But there is also some bad new like stiffer competition from other operating system, like android.
Some other mentionable news
°Palm pre gets numerous updates
°HTC HD2 gets announced and unboxed
°application store launches
°verizon signs deal with moto to bring "droid" to the market with decent specs
°AT&T actually gets another iphone like phone but better with the diamond 2
°HTC and microsoft start a marketing

Dorothy New webkit browser for windows mobile

There is another webkit browser for windows mobile. At the moment the only other webkit browser for windows mobile is "iris" by the torch company. (webkit engine is the same type of browser that's used in palm pre,iphone,g1). The diffrences between this and Iris
* require a WVGA screen (800x400)
* atleast a 400mhz processor
* closed beta
* up to 3 times faster rendering the opera mobile
Some of the negtives being reported are choppy scrolling. Also note that the fellows over at fuze mobilty have said it works fine on a "fuze" aka touch pro

got a new Toshiba TG01 guess what it came with

so if you were lucky enough to buy a Toshiba tg01 recently you might have had a surprise in the box. sure it didnt come described on the box or in the manual but according to some reports it was a nasty little bugger. the device that launched on the 02 network and was hope to be a flagship winmo device came with a virus on the microsd card. not much is know about the actual virus but its said to infect regular computers not pocket pc's. no real damage most pocket pc user do a hard rest and format there card anyways to you should be fine

looks like the guys over at xda developers have come up with a tab inside of touchflo3d for streaming video. the user "Netdrg" has created a tab called manilla tv. which allows you to watch live and some recorded tv. its not a new thing to be able to watch tv on a windows phone, but it is fairly new that you can launch it from tf3d. your also able to use "orb" a alternative to slingbox. if your still into the tf3d shell it gives a added feature

There is a new youtube client for windows mobile. The feature that make it stand out, is the ability to download the video for later.the formats that you can save are flv.3gpp and mp4.Although this isn't the only client that does this it seems to have a flashy ui interms of windows mobile. Looks like the days of watching anything in skyfire is coming to a end. Windows mobile users are reporting that you can no longer view hulu on skyfire I guess it was good while it lasted, all good thinks come to a end. There are some rumors that a hulu application is in the works but nothing soild

Looks like another windows mobile device gets the option to boot in different operating systems. The first being windows mobile 6.5 and now android. This is yet another benfit to windows mobile, that other operating system can do.
But in all fairness this is barley working on this model. Not fully functional as other ports. The HTC Vouge aka touch has a port to android as well. The Vouge can make and recive calls, as well as text and surf the web

so could this be the beginning of a good thing for windows mobile? what i mean is that are they going to start going mainstream with celebrities and music artists, to promote windows mobile as this cool capable operating system? sure Naughty by Nature is a old school rap group, but if Microsoft keeps up with this type of marketing then could bring back windows mobile to its glory day. lets not forget windows mobile is more than capable of doing everything the new "Iphone 3g S" can. as a matter of fact its been doing it for years before the iPhone even came about.
but then there will be those fans boys that no matter what you say, will try to bring down windows mobile and just laugh at this type of ad. for instance they will say "its just a shell" (referring to touchflo 3d) or "its to slow and clunky". that maybe true but how many other mobile os do you know that can run different operating systems on them? I ask you don't you ever get tired of not being able to send a text while streaming music? dont you hate having to stop surfing the on the web when you get a text to respond?
i hope Microsoft brings windows mobile back to its glory days and show the new mobile os community what a smart phone is

Is this the HTC Firestone

Some pictures have surfaced that look like they could be the HTC Firestone. The device looks very bland, nothing really stands out. Yes it has a 8mp camera but looks like it lacks the optics to make the camera good. Seems like all the newer pocket pc's (yes I said ppc not professional) are starting to just "mush" into looking the same. Most of them are now rocking 3 plus inch screens, all of them are rocking at least 500 mhz processor. None of the current or up coming devices stand out from each other. Sure you can say well this has a 8mp camera ,this has a oled screen but its only minor features that separate them. Could this be another stumbling block for windows mobile? Or was it ment to happen so that windows mobile could progress further.

LG Incite get a windows 6.5 rom upgrade

Look like there light down the road for LG Incite users. All those people who bought the device can now download a windows 6.5 rom for it. Its not official so don't get all excited. Its a cooked rom that has been tweaked and customized for the Incite. If your brave enough follow the link . It should be fairly easy. As a side note it seems that the longer microsoft takes to realse the patch work of windows 6.5 the more cooked/underground 6.5 roms come out

Phone spy application does what?

Looks like there is a application going around that's called phone spy. The application is made by a xda developer called "chetstriker". The app allows you to see what incoming text are received on the hacked phone, among other things. The user of the winmo phone has no idea what going on cause the program is placed in windows/start up folder. This is the kind of app that could do a lot of damge or some wicked fun either way go check it out

Samsung omnia pro specs released

Looks like the specs for the samung omnia pro has been released. The pro is nothing like the original samsung omnia other than by name. The new device specs are
3.5 wvga AMOLED screen
5 mp auto focus camera
Fm radio
1 gig of internal memory
800 mhz processor
1500 MaH battery
Along with a slid of keyboard. They device looks awesome but with those type of specs and that battery I think user will be carrying some type power supply

Thoughts on the palm pre from a windows user

So I've been playing with the palm pre for the last week or so. The device and operating system is alot different than what I'm use to. Even with all the shells and launchers on windows mobile. The web os just seems to look and perform alot better than any form of windows mobile to date including the up coming one 6.5 .
But that's not to say that its a hands down winner over windows mobile. For all its flash it had some major issues and down falls.
The multitasking is not what palm makes it to be. Just like windows mobile and unlike the iphone the plam pre can multitask. It use a new system called " cards" but like windows mobile depending on what you have runining in the back round it will effect what you can have running before you get error say that "you must close a card before you can open another" I got this error mostly while on the web. Just like on winmo the web can hog up all your ram depending on what browser your using. ( its happens more often using browser like opera mobile or iris browser. It didn't really make a diffrence if you device had 128mb or 192mb of ram) the overall web experience was unmatched no browser rendered pages with the same speed as the palm pre. Even big pages that had alot of java script were fast. But unlike winmo you can't download things For instance you can't save web pictures, or even save as podcast/mp3s. But in all fairness the operating system is designed to be a cloud based os. I think the idea was to just be able to grabs stuff not save stuff. I'm sure if palm wanted to they could add these features to the browser.

Another compaint some people have is the small keyboard but its not that much of a deal after a day I got use to using it these are just some thoughts will post more later

Acer Tempo M900 unboxing video

They guys over at pocket now have posted their thoughts and a video on the new device from Acer called the Tempo M900. The device is similar to the HTC pro 2. But has a 3.8 screen as well as a samsung 533mhz processor
The device is about 80 dollars cheaper than the touch pro 2. But it will still cost you around 640 usd for this device. They did mention that they have "mixed feels about it, and a cheap feel to it"

looks like the sony xperia x2 is making its way thru the cracks of the interwebs. pictures of the new device offer a tilting screen like the touch pro 2 among other things. these specs are pretty much just speculation til its announced

the new skyfire? Mach5 afraid not

ok today there was a release of a new web browser called "Mach5" it attempts to mimic the skyfire browser experience. it does give you the full web and ability to play flash videos like skyfire. but the major difference at the moment is when you play flash videos it gives you the option to play it in a video player (if you have used a nokia phone you know what im talking about). the video i tried were very choppy and stuttered compared to the skyfire experience. at the moment Mach5 is in a trial mode. it s not known how much it will cost. but my advice is that you put more work into it. i like the overall ui and the separate video player. you can download it here http://netacceler.com/home/main.html

the folks smartphonedaily have had a chance to do a review of the new up coming HTC Snap. the reviewer "andyB" compares the design to the blackberry curve, but also say in the same breath that it looks nicer. Why not follow the steps of nokia and start rereleasing phone that are movie theme based, specficly for the new "techy" movies or even movies that you know will be a big hit. It not that hard to add a few themes based on the movies. Couple of mp3 clips of the movie, maybe a small app. How cool would a HTC diamond look tricked with a star trek theme or a Samsung Omnia based on the Xmen.

HTC Snap all around america

Looks like the HTC snap is coming to 3 carriers. Verizon gets it as the HTC XV6175, Sprint gets it as the HTC snap s511 (according to the leaked document) and tmobile usa gets it as HTC snap s522. It looks at the moment that all of them will have the same core features like the 528mhz proc. Thats assuming verizon doesnt find away to butcher it like it has the other HTC devices

well it came out, the application is sweet adding many features including 2 different type of home screens. one is called professional and the other is the lifestyle. the lifestyle home screen is widget based. similar to the Samsung omnia or the xda developer application. you can add pretty much add any shortcut to your home screen whether its a contact or application or if you want a bookmark it can be added among other things. you also get this cool new carousel like the original HTC touch cube,that allows you to acess all the main function the new SPB shell is designed to let you function in the shell with very minimal use of the old stale winmo user interface. the only down side at the moment is the hit on battery and ram. but if your tired of the ole winmo UI try out the new spb shell. the above picture is my home screen

another reason why i love windows mobile.

well as you can see in my header im a die hard windows mobile user (fan boy to some). with that comes the need to to tweak my device to the fullest, but the down side to that is im trying all the beta roms tweaks and applications. Ive been currently trying all the touch flo 3d 2 roms as well as the windows 6.5 roms that are being cooked. but another down fall to trying the newest and greatest is that they can be very unstable.
so last night i flashed a touch pro rom that was focused around using the new touch flo 3d 2 ui. the rom was very fast and has some nice touches. i flashed the rom and setup up my phone to my liking. after i set it up i did a soft rest then when it went to reboot it froze on the on the start up screen, no biggie i thought it happens some times bad flash corrupt file here or there so i did a hardrest and set it up again. once more did a softrest and it booted fine i charged it and went to sleep. so today i went to work the device seemed fine surfed the web and sent some emails out fine did a few tweets ( follow me at twitter.com/cjmedina) but for some reason it froze or i updated a application and it asked me to rest well when i did it, it got stuck on the start up image again. mind you this was at 745 am 15 mins before work starts and i didnt have a computer in sight. so what i did was a hardrest via the the 3 finger combo and got it up and running again but this time i was able to use the web ( iris ) and was able to download another rom to my memory card and flash it from my micro sd (transflash for us old people)
so my point is i was able to fix a major issue with out having to hook it up to a computer , it took less than 15 mins to flash a new rom . that not a easy thing to do with other mobile os. ya there is gonna be people that say its because winmo sucks that you had to go thru that, but im pointing out the fact that you can do things with winmo that you couldnt with other os. YES other os crash as well and require you hook up to a pc/mac to get it running again

Windows mobile antivirus ?

As you know everyone that has a windows PC is recommended to own some type of antivirus software. Why because its the hackers choice of operating system to jack or infect. There are numerous trojans,spyware,malware you name it. Is it safe to say or make a statement that windows mobile is in the same boat, I think not. To date there is no known pocket PC virus,spyware,malware affecting the current windows mobile OS. Yes there is a small list of ones that exist as seen in this link.

Yes there will be those that say windows mobile is based on Windows CE which is true but it is written different. Looks like sprint pushed out a minor rom upgrade the there HTC touch Diamond. It doesnt look like it is the same rom as the one was leaked. The article makes no mention of the new 6 on 6 browser that was on the leaked version that came out a while back. Some of the improvements include a upgrade to opera mobile

well the like the song goes look at all the rumors but in this case it has to do with suppose windows mobile 7. so the story goes "how is there screen shots if Microsoft is actively seeks recruits for windows mobile 7 development? "why do some of the screen shots look like pointui home ?" on and on....
here is my take im not saying that there real or that they're fake i just want to point out some facts. you remember those screen shots that came out a while back saying they were shots of windows mobile 6.5. everyone including myself thought they were fakes but ended up being real. everyone found every excuse under the sun to say why the were fake, from the graphics to the font.
it could be in fact that these are the wm7 shots, if they are then Microsoft deserves to lose its place in the smartphone world. you deiced if they are real or not

looks like the the very popular music site lastfm is pulling the cord on all the unofficial music clients. there are numerous clients that use there music streams. the more popular ones are "pocket scrobbler" "pocket lastfm" and on s60 platforms "mobbler".
in the last forums there explanation is
" Last.fm has never had a public radio API, although we've tolerated third-party clients using the undocumented calls that our client uses. This is finally about to change - we're going to make a public, documented streaming API available to everyone who has an API account. There are a few limitations:

The application runs very smooth, videos look decent, the UI isn't that bad. the bad is that if you have a HTC device with the built in youtube player it takes over and becomes the default player thus taking away the old application. the picture above show the HTC stock one and the right is the new Google one

no doubt that you have seen the commercials for the blackberry storm even the iphone's stupid look what i can do commercials. Well it was only a matter of time before Microsoft got their head out the sand in regards to windows mobile marketing. Microsoft is now starting to push out commercials for its windows mobile platform. although at first (hopefully) they're not that great. but if you look at the video there are some points all us windows mobile users have gone threw, not only that it also points to all the great thing windows mobile can do. i think the ideal thing Microsoft can do is make ads that mock the iphone and blackberry, pointing out all the things they claims they revolutionized. Microsoft point out that "we have been in the game longer", and all the things like the "full web experience" mention that "we've been doing that long before you have". Start team up with companies like Samsung HTC even VITO and make the point that we different flavor/styles for different people. Drive the point "dont let one phone hold you down. Mention the difference between the Samsung Omnia and the HTC touch pro as well as the same feature it hold. enough of the rant here is the video

HTC Rhodium coming to sprint

yep that's right Unwiredview.com has got their hands on a leaked road map for sprint. the HTC Rhodium is going to be the upgrade to the touch pro, well for sprint at least. the phone was one the phones leaked on the HTC road map ealier this year. the specs i think are similar to the current touch pro with a view exceptions

* Support for REV A and HSDPA
* there is also mention that it will run windows mobile 7? ( dont see that happen maybe 6.5 based on microsoft's time line)

so everyone has seen the new menu bars in windows 6.5 right. They have a very polished look to them almost 3D, the menus pop out and are very finger friendly. Well Francesco Carlucci along with 12aon and Kraize (graphics) from xda developers have created a application called "finger menu". the application does just what the windows 6.5 one does, it works in all the menus including applications like coreplayer. ive have tried it on qvga and vga devices. this is application is in a cab so its easy to install and remove.

Acer DX650 2 sided windows phone

One of Acer's newest pocket pc has been released in the Philippine, the Acer DX650. this phone is unique in that it has two sides, Pretty weird if you ask me. one side feature a numerical keypad with a 1.27-inch 128 x 96 monochrome OLED on top. if you flip the phone around you have 2.8-inch QVGA with 2 hard buttons below it. there is also a jog wheel,2 mp camera, for data hsdpa and wifi.
the form factor is a new one in the current windows mobile line. i hope that acer is using some type of scratch restive screen or is including a drop cloth of some sort. all the chrome looks real nice.

Gresso skeleton high end windows mobile

yep that's right if you thought the Sony xperia 1 or the touch HD was pricey you haven't seen nothing. Keep in mind that both those phones hover around the 750 usd range. this new phone the "Skeleton" made by a company called Gresso. the phone is nothing really special spec wise. 2mp camera, 2 gigs of internal storage, mp3 player. to be frank its not even a ppc it runs the smart phone os. that's only half the specs this bad boy has.
the reals story is it has 23 keys that are “executed of 18k gold” as well as a hand-polished 42k sapphire glass, that cover its qvga screen. this is a limited edition phone with only 50 of the devices being made world wide. so with that you can imagine how much this is gonna cost. the retail price is $4,400 yes that is American dollars.
this is not unique in that there are other companies like nokia's vertu that sell very basic phone but have them "blinged out" in gold, diamonds or other gems and then sell them for a small fortune

is Microsoft taking names of websites and blogs that are publishing images and roms of the up coming windows 6.5? first it started with the big boy like xda develpers. Then slowly other site have been getting this letter from a person calling himself "James Young, Internet Investigator, on behalf of Microsoft Corporation". some of the news sites that cover windows mobile like msmobiles.com wmpowerusers.com have received such notices
the real question are. Is james young a real Representative of microsoft? Why is microsoft going after its own core. the people who are helping to advance the windows mobile platform? the people who cook these roms and people who use them on there devices are helping microsoft out with beta testing. if they cut there core out, whos going to buy them? hey microsoft here is a news flash "no one is standing in lines overnight to buy any windows mobile phones" people are lining up for other mobile os like apple,android. get off your asses and take back what was yours

will this be the new face of windows mobile smartphones. no not the actual housing or form factor but the internal specs. we all know that the line between smartphone os (standard) and ppc os (professional) are quickly blending together. the days of what defined a smartphone and a ppc are pretty much gone. there were days that smartphone os were basiclly a smaller version of a ppc. from the smaller processor,to the numeric keyboard,to the smaller and lack of a touch screen.
with phones like the pantech matrix the only way to distinguish itself from a ppc is the lack of a touch screen. when you look at the specs below you would think its from a low end ppc.

torch mobile announced a new version of it webkit based browser. the new version is very fast at rendering its web pages compared to the older verison. some sites seem to load faster the the new opera mobile (depending on the build you have) i went to http://michaelsavage.wnd.com/ on opera and it load fast with little re rendering. with the new version of iris browser it loaded noticeably faster on a evdo connection, with almost no re rendering while scrolling thru its page. the new version now gives you the option to import your bookmarks from internet explorer or even opera mobile. (i was able to import pie bookmarks but not opera).some new features include

apple insider has determined that HTC manufacturers 80 percent of windows mobile devices. including the fact that some of the devices are rebranded by other names. some devices include the the Palm Treo pro,Sony xperia 1. altough the calucation seems kind of wonky (see article). although not stated apple's biggest competions is the infamous HTC brand. HTC poses the biggest threat to apple smartphone conquest.

The specs look very nice, IM excited that they choose to use a samsung processor.

Ok so whats the big deal? There is a video floating around of a windows mobile 6.5 rom on a touch hd. The rom is a cooked and some guy is showing the world. Why is everyone posting it like it likes it new. There are roms floating around for the HTC Diamond and the Touch Pro.

looks like the CDMA Treo Pro will be making it way to sprint next month on the 15. As well as a device know as the HTC cedar. although it not a ppc it is a smartphone. i couldn't find much info on it other than it has bluetooth.

well that's what it looks like. the word and term windows mobile is about to be gone, only to be replaced by the term "windows phone" with a number behind it. it wasn't to long ago that they changed the names that were already in place. from pocket pc to professional, smart phone to standard. now we will have just "windows phone". it isnt that much of a surprise since Steve Balmer (CEO Microsoft)referred to the windows phone in his keynote speech at CES in Las vegas

the Toshiba TG01 looks and has all the right specs. including the first 1.0ghz processor by Qualcomm,not to excited that it comes with 6.1. would have liked to see it come with at least winmo 6.5.. i am excited that its even thinner the HTC diamond and have a bigger screen than the HTC touch HD. i should mention that it has the 6 on 6 browser with flash support.(but come on if you want it now go get a custom rom) but it does look a little to big, even compared to iphone. i wonder what the battery life will be like. better come with at least a 1800MaH battery

According to the article effective march 27 there will be 77 less people working for the windows mobile division in flordia. I gotta say its not that much of a surprise to see motorola leave the winmo market. Other than the Q line of smartphones what's else has moto done recently? I can only remember a couple of window based phones that they had remember the motorola mpx200 then the popular mpx220, lets not forget the "MPX" aka mpx300. So it makes sense financialy to ditch wimo
